Suffolk flings open its doors - come on in!

Published: 9th October 2008 22:50

Suffolk is opening its doors this weekend (11-12 October) for the Big Weekend. Numerous venues across the county will be inviting people in for free to showcase the range of attractions the region has to offer.

The open doors event has been chosen by Suffolk to kick off its part in the Cultural Olympiad and there promises to be something for everyone.

The aim of the weekend is to promote the county as a place to visit for short breaks and day trips from now and throughout the four years of the Cultural Olympiad.  The free entry passes on offer will provide a taster of the wealth of cultural, leisure, sporting and heritage opportunities Suffolk has.

Opening their doors this weekend are, amongst others, are High Lodge at Thetford Forest and Baylam House Rare Breeds Farm.  A full list of venues taking part and how you can get a free entry pass to one of the many attractions is available on the Suffolk's Big Weekend website at http://www.suffolksbigweekend.co.uk/

Suffolk County Council's portfolio holder for culture and economic development,
Cllr Lisa Chambers said:

"What a great weekend this promises to be!  There are so many venues opening their doors for free this weekend that we are spoilt for choice, check the website to see which ones still have free passes left and then come and join us all in celebrating what Suffolk has to offer."

She continued:

"This is a showcase for Suffolk and for the wonderful sites and attractions we have here on our doorstep. The event has shown how businesses and people across the county are so enthusiastic about getting involved and living life to the full in this wonderful county we live in. I hope this weekend will be a boost for tourism and a taster for those who want to get involved through the four year Cultural Olympiad and beyond."
