HELP FOR SMOKERS TO KICK THE HABIT

Smokers in the area will get all the help they need to kick the habit when stop smoking advisors set up stall at Tower Ramparts shopping centre next week.
On Thursday (14 August), representatives from NHS Suffolk's Stop Smoking Service will be handing out advice to smokers keen to give up. As well as giving out information on the best ways to quit, advisors will also be testing people's carbon monoxide levels to assess their current levels of addiction.
"Over the years I have worked with many people that thought they didn't have the strength to quit," said Elaine Vincent, a stop smoking advisor with NHS Suffolk.
"They often think the groups we run are going to be intimidating - but once they start making the most of the help and support we provide, people get over their pre-conceptions and successfully kick the habit. It's satisfying to know that we can help make such a positive difference to people's lives."
Research shows that people who use nicotine replacement therapies (NRT) or other stop smoking medicines, and take advantage of NHS services to support them as they quit, they are up to four times more likely to quit.
"It is never too late to quit. I have seen so many people go from feeling unfit and unable to keep up with their children, to being fit and healthy in a matter of months," added Elaine.
