Members of the Sandlands Road Residents' Association attended the meeting of the Reigate and Banstead Executive Council on March 26th to formally present the petition for allotments in Walton on the Hill to Council.
Following a 5 minute presentation by Chairman Sam Stevenson, it was recommended that an in-depth report be prepared under the portfolio of Councillor Julian Ellacott, to support the facts presented.
Following the meeting, Sam Stevenson said:
We feel that the presentation went well, and are happy that the Council will now take this to the next stage. We are confident that we have established that there is a genuine demand for a significant number of plots, and the Council will now prepare a report to back this up.
We are extremely grateful for all the petitions we received back, and the letters of support we have had, which include our MP Crispin Blunt, and two of our local school Heads.
With grants available from the government for 'Healthy Living' initiatives as well as loans specifically for the purchase of land for allotments, the committee hope that the report will find in favour of the community resource. Local residents have also pledged to help with fundraising.
