The Wilkinson store situated on Nunn Street, Newcastle, revealed its new image on Thursday 7th June, when The Mayor of Newcastle, Councillor Jackie Slesenger, helped unveil the home and garden retailer's revamped look to the public.
The Mayor joined Wilkinsons' head of retail, Robin Lassiter and store manager, Paul Knowles, in cutting the ceremonial ribbon in front of a crowd of early bird customers.
As part of Wilkinsons' commitment to the local community, store manager, Paul, presented Councillor Jackie Slesenger with a cheque donation to go towards the new Mayor of Newcastle charity fund. The fund supports local charities, St Oswald's Hospice and the Rainbow Trust, which offers emotional and practical support to families who have a child with a life threatening or terminal illness.
In anticipation of Euro 2012, the first 40 shoppers through the tills were handed a complimentary football goodie bag, containing a football and confectionary to enjoy as they browsed around the new and improved store layout, which includes extensive new product ranges, within a vibrant, more modern shopping environment. Customers were also entertained by local entertainer, John Wilkinson, who amazed shoppers with his magic tricks.
To raise money for the store's new charity of the year, The Great North East Air Ambulance, which provides vital accident and emergency services across the region, the team members hosted a BBQ themed raffle, with one lucky customer walking away with a hamper packed full of products, including a BBQ, cooking utensils and picnicware.
Paul commented: "The re-launch was a huge success and the store is looking great! Its bright and revitalised look, along with our dedicated store team, has made Wilkinson the store to visit in Newcastle."
The Mayor of Newcastle, Councillor Jackie Slesenger, said: "I am very proud to have been invited to join in the celebrations alongside the Wilkinson team. I am also grateful for the donation to the Mayor's Charity Fund, which will help support two charities particularly close to my heart."
The celebrations will continue on Saturday 9th June, when a complimentary face painter will be creating Euro 2012 themed designs for children, from 10am until 4pm.
