Pub plans rejected

A Planning Meeting at the Civic Hall, Newcastle today rejected a planning application which would have resulted in the demolition of the Royal George pub in Brunton Park.
Eric Robson, campaigner to save the pub, and members of North Gosforth Parish Council put forward their objections to the plans to build a 46 bedroom care home on the site and the 14 councillors at the meeting decided in their favour. The proposal was rejected on the following grounds;
the overbearing size of the development.
the effect on neighbouring houses - the new building would have been to close to neighbouring properties.
the lack of amenities for residents of the Care Home.
Although campaigners are pleased with the decision, there is a long way to go before they achieve their ultimate goal of having a pub open again in Brunton Park. The reasons for rejection of the application did not include loss of amenity to the Parklands community, and Hadrian Healthcare may redraw the plans and submit a new application.
