Following the performances by talented young pianists from Europe and Asia, the eminent jury of the Young Pianist of the North international competition awarded the 1st prize and the main title to Meng Sun (pictured above),13, from Germany, delighting the audiences who had been charmed by her playing.
The Talent North East prize, established by the North of England Musical Tournament Trust for the most promising pianist from the North East, went to Joshua Yi He Xu (pictured below), 8, from Heaton, who studies the piano with Marika Slater at the PianoKids specialist studio in Whitley Bay.
"The competition has been an absolute eye-opener for us", said Joshua's parents. "Now we know what we can do to support the development of our son's gift!"
"It's fantastic to have Young Pianist of the North competition in Gosforth", said a local resident; "I attended several events and the level of playing was absolutely astounding! I can't wait for the next competition!"
YPN 2010 will take place on November 25-28, 2010, at the Trinity Church, Gosforth. Those residents who would be interested in hosting the contestants, or offering practice on their piano, are invited to contact the organisers via email (info@ypn-competition.org ) or to call 0191 253 5597.
