A Fab Night at the Customs House
A South Tyneside venue has managed to secure one of the most unique tributes to The Beatles for its first ever North East performance.
For one night only at the Customs House, leading tribute act These Beatles will be joined on stage by the 32 piece SoundPower Orchestra to celebrate the work of George Martin - the man known to many as the "fifth Beatle".
Most of The Beatles' orchestral arrangements and instrumentation (as well as frequent keyboard parts on the early records) were written or performed by Martin in collaboration with the band.
It was Martin's idea to put a string quartet on Yesterday against McCartney's initial reluctance and he arranged the score for The Beatle's film Yellow Submarine.
The first half will see the band perform the Fab Four's biggest hits like Love Me Do, I Wanna Hold Your Hand, Please Please Me and Paperback Writer.
They will then be joined on stage by the SoundPower Orchestra where for the second half where they will perform songs like Eleanor Rigby, Hey Jude and Strawberry Fields that contain the memorable George Martin Orchestrations.
Adam Hastings, who performs as John Lennon in the band said: "We hope the audience will lose themselves in the music and forget it's not the original Beatles they're listening to.
"We've spent hours painstakingly reproducing every chord, note, vocal nuance and mannerism of John, Paul, George and Ringo. We don't just sing the songs; we become The Beatles for the evening. Even our banter in between numbers stays in character.
"We look like and sound just like the real thing and in the second half, the powerful sound of the full orchestra is phenomenal"
Customs House Executive Director Ray Spencer said: "We are delighted to be having such a unique night performed at the Customs House and I would urge all Beatles fans to get their tickets because this promises to be a show unlike any seen in the North East before."
These Beatles are on Tuesday May 5. Tickets cost £13, ( £11 for concessions or £9 for Friends ) and are available by calling the Box Office on 0191 454 1234.
