What A Drag!

Healthy Hillingdon is challenging residents to give up cigarettes and make a fresh start on No Smoking Day, Wednesday the 14 March 2007. A fresh start means no longer smelling of smoke, having smoker's breath or watching your hard earned cash go up in smoke! And with England going smokefree from 1 July, there is no better time to make a fresh start that lasts forever.
There are a range of services available to help you quit for ever. You can get more information from http://www.gosmokefree.co.uk. Information on how to give up is also available from pharmacies, libraries, supermarkets and schools.
Giving up smoking is the single best thing that any of us can do for our health. It also protects our children and loved ones from the dangers of passive smoking. It shows consideration for the many people who have to work in smoky environments, especially their health. It helps us to live better, healthier lives without the taint of smoky clothes and breath, nicotine tinged fingers and overflowing ashtrays.
To support the campaign, Healthy Hillingdon, the PCT, Brunel and Hillingdon Council will be carrying out displays, events and outreach with a range of businesses and organisations in Hillingdon including supermarkets, RAF bases, leisure centres, Brunel, Uxbridge College, other schools and libraries.
This year's No Smoking Day will signal the lead-up to Smokefree England, where smoking will be banned in all public enclosed spaces including pubs, clubs, restaurants and workplaces.
Anyone wanting information about what their business needs to do to comply with the new legislation can contact Hillingdon Council's Environmental Health team on 01895 250 190.
More information is also available from the website at www.smokefreeengland.co.uk.
