Hidden Gems In London Only The Locals Know About

(Advertising Feature) Published: 4th January 2018 11:16

London – it’s renowned for its iconic landmarks, such as Big Ben or the London Eye, but are you aware of the other impressive landmarks and areas that reside in the big city? When visiting London on a small day out, or you’re commuting to the British city every day on business grounds, it can be easy to miss out on all of the hidden gems that it has on offer. With such a huge landscape though, it can become difficult to search for those hidden gems, as they often reside in places that you may never have thought to look in originally. Well, we’re here to reveal all of the secrets, and enlighten you on the hidden London gems that you’ve been missing out on. Interested? Ensure you have your e111 card renewal under your belt, and head off to these bespoke, unknown treasures.

Secret Garden In Regents Park

All visitors to London will understand that there are some bursts of greenery here and there, such as at the famous Hyde Park, but there are other places situated in London that are even more rural than that – introducing the secret garden in Regents Park. If you find yourself upon the Inner Circle of Regent’s Park, you should keep an eye out for a discreet gate, which will lead you straight to this breath-taking destination. Not only will you be surrounded by bright green trees and blooming flowers, but there is also stunning sculpture work here as well, such as the grade II listed Goatherd Daughter’s statue, standing proudly in the middle of the park.

The Roof Gardens

While there are stunning gardens here and there in London, the best ones can be found on rooftops – such as this one in Kensington High Street, W8. Sure, the area itself might be man-made, but this is easily forgettable when surrounded by vibrant flowers and warm lights that set a romantic, idyllic ambience. When relaxing at this hidden gem of London, you can admire an abundance of fruit trees, and take in the scent of lavender to put your mind at ease. Plus, with wandering flamingos on top of everything else, it almost feels as though you’re the main character in an Alice in Wonderland film!

Geffrye Museum

This destination isn’t actually hidden from view, however on the outside it seems unassuming, which is why not many people know about its existence. So, that average building on Kingsland Rd is actually a museum, but not just your average history or science museum – but a museum that revolves around the history of home! If you love interior design, or perhaps you’re interested in redecorating your own home, this is a great place to explore when looking for inspiration. In addition, the museum was expanded in 1998, so you can now sit and enjoy a bite to eat while admiring the stunning gardens that reside outside.

Cockney Cash Machine

If you want a proper taste of what London was like many years ago, then the Cockney cash machine is the perfect hidden gem for you! Cockney rhyming slang in itself is a kind of art form, but it is slowly dying down as the amount of people speaking the language is decreasing. We love it however, and are thrilled to see a Cockney cash machine keeping the art form alive! It’s found in Shoreditch, so you can stand there and enjoy some fun as you receive your banking instructions in the best language yet.

London can appear boring once you’ve visited the major landmarks, but you can never be short of things to do there with so many hidden gems around every corner. In a city full of architecture and bustling commuters, it can be challenging to realise the sheer beauty beneath the surface, but we promise, it is there!
