Shot fired in Maypole robbery

A shot was fired in an armed robbery at a local post office this morning.
The raid took place at the Maypole Post Office in Stotford Road at 10am. (Wednesday) A man entered the shop just as cash was being delivered by a security van. He threatened staff with a firearm and a shot was fired, however no one was injured.
Police were alerted by a quick thinking member of the public who dialled 999 to say a robbery was in progress.
A box containing a large quantity of cash was taken and the man escaped on foot.
The offender is described as male, around 6ft tall, of medium build and he was wearing dark clothing.
