Envision is looking for volunteers to work with local young people to make a difference in the local community
- Could you spare 2 hours a week?
- Are you keen to work with young people?
- Do you care about the social and environmental issues facing your local area?
- Are you confident with good communication skills and loads of enthusiasm?
If so, then Envision yourself.......
....as a volunteer supporting 16-19 year olds in schools and colleges to develop their skills, confidence and potential, whilst at the same time, helping them to make a difference in their local communities.
Who are we? Envision is a youth education and empowerment charity which works with 16-19 year olds in schools and colleges to help them realise their own capacity to make a difference. This is both making a difference to the world around them (their peers, their school community, their local area or even the global stage) and to themselves in terms of increasing their confidence and enhancing their team-work, communication, organisation and leadership skills. We support them to look at the issues affecting the world and impacting on them or young people like them, and to then devise and implement their own projects to tackle these issues
What are we looking for? We are looking for volunteers to work with Envision from September 08 to April 09 in Birmingham for just 2 hours per week. We need committed, energetic, enthusiastic and dynamic people to support small teams of young people to plan, set up and implement their own projects tackling problems they identify in their communities. Previous projects have included those centred around the issues of homelessness, climate change, healthy living, fairtrade, recycling, sexual health, bullying, crime and multiculturalism.
What would it involve? You'd receive full training over the summer and ongoing support throughout the school year. You'd be placed with one other volunteer in a school or college local to your home, place of work or study and would be meeting with your team on an allocated day each week during school term times to help them turn their ideas into actual projects.
But what do you get out of it? Volunteers have told us that they've found the whole experience to be challenging, fun and highly rewarding. They've really enjoyed seeing the young people grow in confidence and have seen their own communication, organisation and leadership skills improve too. The chance to get out there and do something positive whilst at the same time meeting new people is also a great plus point to volunteering with Envision.
So, do YOU fancy taking on the Envision Volunteer Challenge? For more information, please check out our website at www.envision.org.uk/volunteer or call Mel Dipple 0121 772 7685 or email mel@envision.org.uk
If you can't volunteer but you know a man or woman who might, please support Envision by passing this information on to friends, family, colleagues or HR departments that may be interested in this rewarding role.
