Overnight attacks on green up campaign

Attempts to add greenery to a local street have suffered a setback just ahead of judging for the Britain in Bloom contest.
Vandals have attempted to destroy the new floral decorations in York Road, Kings Heath, by overturning planters and ripping up bushes.
Colette Timothy, who runs Chatterbox Boutique, says there must have been quite a group of people involved because the huge tubs filled with soil are extremely heavy to lift.
After the vandals are believed to have struck overnight, Colette and fellow shop owner Amy Gizegoizek arrived the following morning to find soil and plants strewn over the pavement.
Shops on the road off Kings Heath High Street have been campaigning for trees to be planted and saw the new planters, provided by Kings Heath Floral Trail, as an important step forward.
"We were really upset to see the damage," says Colette. Between them the local shops have managed to replace the greenery, but it has put quite a dampener on efforts to smarten up the area they admit.
