Local councillor quizzes Post Office boss on closures

A local councillor is leading a special inquiry into Post Office plans to close branches in Kings Heath and on the Moseley Road.
Cllr Mark Hill, who represents Brandwood Ward where two branches are under threat, chaired a meeting attended by representatives from Post Office Ltd. He quizzed the company's network development manager Mark Partington about the closure plans.
"The city council inquiry gives us an opportunity to question Post Office Ltd on their intended closures for Birmingham and to look at specific local examples with the benefit of individual councillors' knowledge of the area," said Cllr Hill.
He said the inquiry will also consider the capacity for alternative branches to cope with the increased demand from customers and to make sure the Post Office bases its final decision on full and accurate information.
A six-week public consultation exercise began on 24th June and the city council inquiry's findings will be published at the end of the period.
