Kings Heath and Moseley congestion-busting plan killed off at birth?

The two sides of Birmingham City Council's ruling coalition appeared at odds tonight after a congestion-busting plan being championed by a Lib Dem councillor was immediately cancelled by his Conservative colleague.
Moseley and Kings Heath ward councillor Martin Mullaney faced a stormy public meeting last week over his idea for a so-called Red Route along the A435 Alcester Road.
He says there is funding available for the proposal, which would then allow improvements to the Number 50 bus route. Although he says he does not want to push through any plan against the wishes of local residents, he spoke in favour of the Red Route with support from a senior officer in Birmingham City Council's highways department and the largest local bus company National Express West Midlands.

But having read of the debate on AboutMyArea, senior Conservative councillor Neville Summerfield immediately denied there were any plans for any more Red Routes in Birmingham.
"This is something of a red herring. There are no plans for any more red routes," he said.
Cllr Summerfield, who represents Brandwood as well as being the City Council's Cabinet member for regeneration told the local website there has to be a full evaluation of the A34 corridor regarding impact, traffic flows and trading environment before any further routes are considered.
