Neighbourhood campaign to cut traffic speeds

Kings Heath Neighbourhood Forum is campaigning to reduce traffic speeds in the area.
They are particularly concerned about cars and vans racing along narrow residential roads with parking on both sides. If a car door opens or a child runs out there could easily be a very serious accident, they say.
Forum spokesperson Andy Savage makes the comparison with other countries in Europe where the division between the space for cars and pedestrians is more blurred. "Traffic naturally slows down when it is less clear about right of way and they have to drive more carefully," he says.
There are no firm proposals as yet about which roads might be included in a 20mph zone, although the focus is clearly on narrow residential streets.
The idea of a 20mph limit for the High Street is not being ruled out at this stage. "There are people crossing the road all over the place and when it's congested you're probably forced to drive that slow anyway," comments Andy.
Does traffic drive too fast in the street where you live?
