"Neil Young" in Birmingham

If you can't get to see NEIL YOUNG at GLASTONBURY this week or the ROCK CALLING FESTIVAL in Hyde Park on Sat 27th, there is still a chance to enjoy his music as interpreted by a tribute band called Not So Young.
The band members are all Neil Young devotees who feel the great man was an important influence on their own musical development. They set up the band 3 years ago after a Neil Young set went down well at a birthday bash.
The band are now at the start of their 'South Birmingham Tour' which includes gigs at the Patrick Kavanagh pub, on Friday 3rd July, as part of the Moseley Festival, followed by another gig at newly re-opened Station Pub in Kings Heath on Friday 10th July. As well as a being part of the line up at the Moseley Folk Festival on the 5th September they appear at Cotteridge's Tower of Song on the 8th August,12th September and 24th October. A ‘taster' of the band can be seen on www.myspace.com/notsooyungband
‘We got so many people coming after that saying how much they admired Neil Young and how much they had enjoyed hearing us play his songs.' said Graham Jones, lead guitar in the band. ‘The more I play his music the more I am impressed with his song writing ability and his musicianship. The line up also includes the amazing slide guitar skills of Gareth Austin, Mike O'Neill on bass and Matt Boss on drums.
Canadian David Bruce Johnson fronts the band with vocals, acoustic guitar and electric violin. He said "Neil has always been a musical hero of mine and it's a thrill to play his music to live audience. However, our line up is slightly different with the electric violin, but people seem to really respond to how we interpret his music. We are starting to receive standing ovations which is great!"
