Coventry children keep in step to get walking
Over 60 children have taken part in a brand new 4-week walking programme at St Christopher's Primary School in Coventry. The Coventry Let's Walk team delivered a programme covering health and safety, route planning, and walk leading.
The programme was designed to encourage and educate children to take up more exercise to improve their health. The programme had such a positive impact that it even motivated parents to walk more.
All of the children were given a free pedometer to measure how far they walked each day. The pedometers gave the children that extra motivation to take as many steps as possible both at home and at school. The two classes then battled against each other to see which class had walked the most steps!
The children said they "enjoyed keeping count of how many steps walked" and that "the pedometers had improved my walking distance and ability".
