PREGNANCY FOOD NO - NOS

Below is a list of foods to avoid during pregnancy and the reasons why.

Marlin, shark and sword fish
These fish can contain high levels of contaminants such as mercury
Coffee and alcohol
It can affect a developing baby's nervous system and brain. Increased risk of miscarriage if drunk in excess.
Soft cheeses, unpasteurised cheese and milk
Risk of contracting listeria
Raw and lightly cooked eggs, home made mayonnaise and puddings made with raw eggs
Risk of contracting salmonella
Raw and partially cooked meats
Risk of contracting toxoplasmosis
Liver
Contains high levels of vitamin A that can be harmful to the baby if eaten in large quantities
Nicotine
Higher risk of miscarriage and low birth weight
