Roll on down to Goodwood for the NSPCC!

Published: 5th August 2009 12:09
This Sunday skaters of all ages will be rolling down to Goodwood Motor Circuit, Chichester for the 2009 Goodwood Roller Marathon in aid of the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC).

Now in its third year, the event is the largest charity roller skating event of its kind, and will raise vital funds needed to help the NSPCC to run projects for children, young people and families who need us including services in Sussex such as Childline and the NSPCC Helpline.

There is still time to book your place on one of the four different race lengths. Both roller and inline skaters of all abilities are invited to join in the fun. Races are:

• Dual - 22 laps of the track = 53.2 miles
• Full - 11 laps of the track = 26.6 miles
• Midi - 5 laps of the track = 12.1 miles
• Mini - 2 laps of the track = 4.8 miles

With a distance to suit most people, it's fun for all ages. Last year people aged from 8 to 78 took part.

Entry fees vary for each race and full details can be found on the event website - www.goodwoodmarathon.co.uk . All participants will receive a medal for taking part and there will be microchip timing of laps - details of which are listed on the website after the event.

Event organiser, Mick Minster said: "The Goodwood Roller Marathon really is great fun for skaters of all abilities, and is going to be even bigger and better than last year! It really is a great day out for all of the family, whether you take part or cheer the skaters on, and we encourage our contestants to get sponsorships so we can raise funds for a really worthy cause."

NSPCC fundraising manager for Sussex, Russell Squire said, "We are extremely grateful to Camberley Skaters for choosing to support us again this year, now for the third time. None of the NSPCC's services and projects would be possible without the continued generosity of donors, fundraisers and supporters. It's set to be a brilliant day out, so get your skates on, come on down and join in the fun!"
