Former Hull rugby league star, Steve Prescott MBE, will kick-start the grand re-opening of the Wilkinson store, situated in Northpoint Shopping Centre, Bransholme, on Thursday 23rd June, by officially unveiling the home and garden retailer's new look to the public.
The store, which will be closed on Wednesday 22nd June, will re-launch with an improved layout, new product ranges, and a brighter, more modern shopping experience.
To celebrate the store's new makeover, Steve will join Wilkinsons' chief financial officer, Ian Ellis, store manager, Gary Marsden, and long serving staff member, Karen Bennett, who has been working for the company for over 20 years, in cutting the ceremonial ribbon at 9:00am, declaring the store officially re-open.
Children from Dorchester Primary School will also be attending the opening at 9:30am, to deliver some summer holiday themed posters to add even more colour to the re-vamped store, and the first 50 customers through Wilkinsons' doors can take part in a free lucky dip draw, and be in with a chance of winning a selection of quality products from the store.
To raise money for Age UK, Wilkinsons' new charity of the year, staff members will be hosting a raffle throughout the day, where a jam packed hamper full of summer essentials, including a barbeque set, will be up for grabs.
Steve, who is battling a rare form of stomach cancer, set up the Steve Prescott Foundation in 2007 to support Christie's Hospital in Manchester, where he was treated, and Try Assist, which supports players whose lives are affected by serious injuries, while playing the game of rugby league. As part of Wilkinsons' commitment to the local community, the store will present Steve with a cheque donation and the children from Dorchester Primary School will also be presented with vouchers to spend on arts & crafts products within the store, as a thank you for their bright posters.
Store manager, Gary Marsden, said: "We're extremely excited about the store's makeover and are looking forward to showing it off to our loyal customers.
"The re-opening day is set to be a great event with free giveaways and entertainment. An extra special thanks goes to our staff, who are working tirelessly to get the store ready in time to serve the people of Bransholme."
Celebrations will continue on Saturday 25th June, when a children's entertainer will be on hand to wow shoppers with balloon modelling tricks and provide fantastic creations for children to take home. A face painter will also be in store from 10:00am to 4:00pm, to transform children into a variety of colourful creatures.
Wilkinsons sells more than 25,000 product lines, including health and beauty, cleaning products, gardening equipment and homewares, and is one of the fastest growing retailers in the country, serving 178 million customers each year.
Still a family owned firm after 80 years of trading, Wilkinsons has 354 stores across the UK, selling over 25,000 product lines. Wilkinsons is committed to Britain's high streets and is an active supporter of local charities, community groups and care organisations.
