The House at Riverton
| Published: 18th January 2008 19:52 |
Grace, a frail old lady of 90 is dragged back into the past by a letter seeking her advice about a film based on the house at Riverton - the home of an aristocratic family where a mysterious suicide took place.
Grace was lady's maid to Hannah, one of the central characters and only she knows what happened that fateful night of the mid-summer ball.
It is an "upstairs downstairs" saga set in a historical period of unrest. The old values of Victorian England are being questioned; humanity suffered on a grand scale during the 1st World War; the aristocratic lifestyle began to crumble and women started to taste freedom during the decadent 20's.
Beautifully written and easy to read with plenty of surprises throughout - I would thoroughly recommend it.
