Funny Things About My Cat Ruby
She likes to get the pegs on the line,
And she thinks the smell of chocolate is divine.
She welcomes me in when I'm coming home from school,
Sitting on the window ledge.
Don't try to walk near her
When she's Ruby Red Hot.
She'll reach out and
Scratch.
The following poems were all highly commended by the judges:
Arnold by Megan aged 9
My hamster Arnold is jet black
And has very tatty ears,
But even with bits of them missing,
Every word I say he hears.
His belly is white and fluffy
His tail is stumpy and pink.
He is a bit of a wimp you see
He winces whenever I blink.
He has a big cage,
Three stories of pleasure
He shimmies up tubes
For most of his leisure.
He sometimes stops me getting to sleep,
dashing around on his wheel,
but losing my sleep is a small price to pay
for all of the love that I feel.
Puppy, Chelsea, aged 11
I want a puppy.
Just to live with me.
I want to have a puppy.
As furry as can be.
The puppy is so cute.
With its little pink tongue.
And its tiny tail.
That doesn't wag yet at all.
The puppy would be named poppy.
Just like the flower.
Because the flower is beautiful.
Just like my puppy.
That's why i want a puppy!!!
By Connor, aged 9
If I was a lion
I'd roam around the land
Looking for someone to love me
Who'd take me on the sand
If I was a donkey,
I'd graze on green green grass
Hoping that I'd find a carrot
and a handsome ass
but instead I am a good boy,
I laugh and play and chat
whilst playing in my garden
with my favourite cat.
I would love to be a vet
looking after animals in the zoo
I'd nurse and clean them better
Would you like to do this too?
I would help the lions Go roarrrrrrrrrr
Whilst grooming their golden mane
If you could see what I see
you would surely do the same
I'll look after many dogs
Who could never harm a hair
As life would not be the same
Without their friendly glare
For now I'll keep on dreaming
of helping all the little pets
Until I can be old enough
To become one of the kindest vets
My Favourite Fish by Emma Jaye aged 8
Many fish are caught at sea
Then the fishermen shout with glee
But I think the fish get annoyed
When all the fishermen shout ahoy!!
All fish swim around
They never make a sound
they swim around with all their friends
Caitlin, Lucy and Ben
All fish eat different things
Like flakes of corn and bread
before they go on the seaweed swings
with my shark named Ted
