Leeds has moved up the eco-city league table and improved its green credentials.
According to a leading environmental charity, Forum for the Future, Leeds has been ranked sixth in the 2009 league table of the UK's top 20 greenest cities, an improvement of seven places from last year's performance.

On Saturday 5th December, as part of National Tree Week, Leeds City Council in conjunction with BBC Breathing Places aim to help break the Guinness World Record of planting the most trees in one hour across the country. The current record stands at 653,143 trees planted.

Green Leeds residents are recycling and composting more than ever according to latest figures recorded by Leeds City Council.Householders recycling rates have reached record levels peaking at 38.15% in June - an increase of 5.6% and 2,100 tonnes of recycling compared with this time last year.
