Cosmetic Procedures - are they worth it?
| Published: 19th December 2007 20:18 |
Research by Mintel shows that in 2005 there were 300,000 cosmetic procedures carried out in the UK compared to 577,000 in 2007.
It is believed that our perception of beauty is being skewed by models that have been airbrushed in photos and pictures of surgically enhanced celebrities. For lots of people this makes them feel inferior and they want to try and achieve this look - which is almost impossible for most of us.
Coupled with the anti-ageing craze, it has led to a massive increase in cosmetic procedures. It is the love of anti-ageing that is making most people turn to the knife - Botox and Collagen fillers are fuelling the growth in the market, which is currently estimated to be £900m.
But is it all worth it? Cosmetic Surgery..? Expensive Creams...? (Earlier this year people were queuing as if for Nexts' Christmas Sale to get a Beauty Serum which claimed to make you look younger) Or do you think you can have beautiful skin by using natural ingredients (people swear that cucumber slices or cold tea bags get rid of the puffy bags under the eyes); drinking lots of water and getting lots of sleep?
