Chapel Allerton Primary School have recently invested greatly in their outdoor area in the Nursery as it becomes more widely recognised that outdoor learning is important for younger children.
As well as learning physical skills outside, other skills such as literacy and numeracy can equally be learned in the outdoor environment. Nicholas Sykes, Headteacher says younger children enjoy the learning environment outside and used an example of instead of sitting at a desk to learn the alphabet , letters could be hidden outside and children encourged to find and recognise them. Other activities that are normally done inside can equally be done outside, such as painting.
