Local Dad scoops Gold Award for his Ice-cream

Published: 10th August 2009 19:41

Local Dad from Roundhay, Mike Tattersall has just scooped a Gold Award in the National Great Taste Awards 2009 for his home made Kulfi ice cream

A recession may not be the best time to start your own business and selling Home Made Indian Ice cream from a tricycle may not be the usual starting point for many, but Mike believes there has not been a better time or product for him to start his company with.

3 months into his new venture it seems that he is not alone in this view as Indie Ices, Mango Kulfi ice cream has won a Gold Star at the prestigious National Great Taste Awards. Considered to be the Oscars of the Food Industry.

Mike says "The Great Taste Awards from the Guild of Fine Food are the acknowledged benchmark for Speciality Food and Drink and gold is the highest level of the award that any producer can aspire to"  "It's amazing that this small company from Roundhay have had a product that has been independently recognised as being worthy of a gold award by judges who are esteemed chefs, food writers and buyers in the industry".

Mike says "After working for 15 years in the Food Industry as a Technical Manager I took a career break and looked after our two children whilst my wife returned to work". During this time I sampled lots of the kids Ice Cream and knew I had a better tasting product at home made from an original family Kulfi recipe produced by my father in law".

It's seems that intuition was right and you can sample the product for free at Oakwood Farmers Market every 3rd Saturday of the month during summer or find Mike on his Trike at this years Chapel Allerton Festival.
