OLD FRIENDS MCFLY RETURN TO PARTY ONCE MORE IN THE PARK
It will be Party time again for chart-toppers McFly as the band prepare for a welcome return to Leeds for the ever-popular Party in the Park.
They have just been announced as the latest act on the bill for this year's free event at Temple Newsam Park on Sunday July 27.
McFly are old friends of Leeds- previously they have switched on the city's Christmas lights and this will be their third appearance at Party in the Park. They are expected to include songs from their new album Radioactive (released on July 21) as well as a selection from their catalogue of number one singles and albums.
Also added today for the Party in the Park line-up is Scottish singer-songwriter Sandi Thom, who has a big hit last year with "I Wish I was a Punk Rocker (With Flowers in My Hair)".
She and McFly join Scouting for Girls, Alphabeat and David Jordan on the bill at Party, which is organised by Leeds City Council in partnership with 96.3 Radio Aire and supported by the Yorkshire Evening Post.
Cllr Ann Castle, lead member for Leisure, said:
"Party in the Park and its sister Opera event are incredibly popular every year and justifiably so. With the inimitable surroundings of Temple Newsam and a top-quality bill the free tickets are sure to go fast, so get yours as soon as possible!"
Simon Logan, of 96.3 Radio Aire, who was also announcing the latest additions to the bill on his breakfast show today, said:
"What can I say? We couldn't not have McFly back! Every year they've played the crowd have gone absolutely ballistic! I'm really keen to hear some more stuff from Sandi Thom too- she is great live and went down a storm at Radio Aire's intimate gig at the former Hard Rock Café."
Tickets are free to Party and its sister event Opera in the Park (to be held the previous day, Saturday July 26) and have been going like hot cakes since their initial release at a special launch event in Millennium Square last weekend.
They can be obtained from a number of outlets, including the City Centre Box Office at The Carriageworks, Leeds Visitor Centre and the reception for 96.3 Radio Aire and Magic 828. A number of local libraries are also giving out Opera in the Park tickets only. They are: Beeston, Leeds Central Library, Chapel Allerton, Crossgates, Garforth, Guiseley, Halton, Horsforth, Kippax, Otley, Moor Allerton, Morley, Pudsey, Rothwell and Wetherby libraries.
Opera in the Park will feature the orchestra of Opera North and the Leeds Philharmonic Chorus, who will performing a programme of classics which have been in movies, including music by Puccini, Verdi, Mozart and Bizet.
Tickets must be collected in person (maximum four per person) although BreezeCard members can make online requests for tickets via www.breezeleeds.org.uk/party and disabled applicants can make a request by post, with a stamped, addressed envelope, to: Events Team, Leeds Town Hall, The Headrow, Leeds, LS1 3AD.
