East London Community Foundation was originally established in the early 1990s by local people to deliver local business and public monies to good causes. It was through organic growth, funder confidence and local needs that the organisation extended its work to cover the neighbouring boroughs across East and North East London, becoming a community foundation in 1995. In its early years the foundation gave out more modest sums. Since 2002, however, we have distributed over £4 million to over 1,000 community groups and projects, touching and changing the lives of thousands of people in East and North East London and turning their ideas into reality.
East London Community Foundation bases its support for community initiatives on local knowledge, consultation and reasearch on the issues facing local people. We help communities to help themselves and help donors to ensure that their funds are targeted in the right area, for the right cause and for maximum benefit.
