The Milton Keynes Hemingway 7's Tournament

Milton Keynes winning the Beer final The Milton Keynes 7`s tournament (originally named the Business House sevens) was started in 1976, but was renamed the Hemingway sevens following the sad death of club stalwart Peter Hemingway in 2003
This year, after Milton Keynes first full season at Emerson Valley, the Sevens in it`s 36th year have been mixed with a variety of events including live music from 6 different groups, MK cheerleaders, and throughout the day demonstrations from MK Korfball and MK Lions.
The sevens tournament itself attracted 20 teams, the local teams being Amptill, Dunstablians, Leighton Buzzard, Cranfield and the host club Milton Keynes. After the initial group stages the following clubs emerged to move on to the final stages, depending on their positions 1st to 5th in each group, there being 5 cups and trophies to play for.
In 5th place Milton Keynes topped the tale enders winning the Beer Cup
In 4th place Milton Keynes 2nds beat Wellingborough to win the PXV Sports Wooden Spoon, sponsored by "PXV Sports."
ln 3rd place Laurentions Racing Snakes beat Leighton Buzzard, to win the Domestique MK Bowl, sponsored by "Domestique Cleaning Services"
In 2nd place Trojan 7`s beat BRM to win the The Bluefin Insurance Plate, sponsored by "Bluefin Insurance"
To complete the day 7 Dawrfs beat Dunstablians to win the Hemingway PJ CARE shield, sponsored by "PJ Care"
The day was a complete success for the club and the Hemingway sevens will be back next year in it`s new format.
On the playing front, pre season starts on Tuesday and Thursday the last week of June, the new league details are complete and level 7 looks like being an exciting season with Olney, Buckingham and Reading Abbey dropping down from level 6 and Drifters (from the Farnham area) and Thatcham promoted from level 8.
Milton Keynes start the campaign with the first game away to Olney.
