Market Walk Clean-Up Completed And Celebration Planned
The clean up of Market Walk in Driffield will be completed this week with the pavement being cleaned by East Riding of Yorkshire Council's safer communities team joining forces with local businesses and volunteers on 19th January to pressure wash the area.
The clean-up is the final part of a project led by Driffield Partnership and Driffield Town Council's environmental working group to improve one of the routes leading to the town centre. The project involved painting and cleaning the surfaces, rendering of a facing wall and new signage.
Helen Jackson, Market Town Renaissance co-ordinator, said: "This is a small but significant project to improve our town centre. It is an excellent example of local businesses pulling together to improve the area. All the businesses along Market Walk contributed to the project and, spurred on by this success, the environment group are now looking at other lanes around the town centre to improve."
Funding for the project was donated by local businessman, John Dosser, the businesses of Market Walk and East Riding of Yorkshire Council through the Market Town Renaissance team. Driffield Town Council and Mr Lees also contributed to the project by painting surfaces and the advertising boxes.
To say thank you and acknowledge the community spirit shown by those that contributed towards the project, Driffield Partnership are marking the end of the project with a celebration event at 2pm, Thursday 28th January 2010.
