Marathon Ding Dong
On Saturday 19th September, ringers will attempt to ring an extra long peal of 10,000 changes of Stedman Cinques on the twelve bells of the Parish Church.
Starting at about 11am, this peal will be twice length of the longest ever rung in Towcester. It will also be the most difficult and complicated peal ever attempted in the world. This challenging task is being attempted in aid of the Church Roof Appeal.
If successful it will take about 6 hours and 30 minutes non-stop. Yet with the complexity and length of time involved it is by no means certain of success and will require an amazing level of concentration and endurance throughout from the twelve ringers!
CCTV will relay views of the bells and ringers into the church and on the Internet. The Towcester Partnership’s new “Youth Bus” will be on the Market Square with its mobile Internet facility so that members of the community can drop by and see what is going on.
“Our target is £15,000 and this big contribution from the ringers will help us on the way” says Revd Tony Bryer, Rector of Towcester. “ Please come by to see what is happening and if you can become a sponsor.”
Sponsorship form will be available in the Chantry House that morning and on “The Bus”.
Jim Lynch, Chairman of The Towcester Partnership says: “We are delighted to be able to support one of our partners in the town with our new Community and Youth Bus in this way. Come along on Saturday, check out and be amazed by “The Bus”, watch the bells and ringers in action on the CCTV and make a contribution. Every little helps!”
