Plough landlord Nick Hasting's welcomes his wife Michele back to Blighty after 1300 cycle marathon across Canada
Monday night at the Plough Inn, Market Place, Towcester held a special celebration for landlord Nick Hastings as he welcomed his wife back from an epic trans Canada cycle ride.
Talking to AboutMyArea/NN12 Nick said, "Michele returned on Sunday from Canada with tails of cougars eating road kill only 50 yards away from the 2 intrepid housewives who were travelling across the country by themselves.
"Buffalo followed them for 20 odd miles thinking they were the farmers on horse back, frighteningly large beasts, that roam anywhere because there are no fences.
"Over 200 townsfolk turned out one day at 5.00am to cheer them off on the next days ride… travelling approximately 65 miles a day they kept a steady pace through extreme conditions and saw the dust storms of the prairie to forest fires over the boarder in the USA… incredibly heavy down pours of rain didn't stop them.
"Apparently a large trucking company found out about the journey and each trucker gave large hoots from their trucks as they passed them along the way.
"Jo Wooliams who is doing the whole country is continuing now by herself and will eventually finish in Halifax can be followed on her blog ‘edge to edge Canada’….as can all the stories be verified with photo’s from her blog !
"Michele however is pleased to be home having covered the distance between Calgary to Toronto over the last 6 weeks some 1300 miles!"
