Ian Keable performs his magic
What better way to spend a very wet Monday afternoon than at a Jubilee Tea for the Senior Citizens in the Towcester area. The event was organized by the Rotary Club of Towcester with the food provided by the Towcester WI. The venue for the afternoon was Leeson Court and transport, for those who needed it, was arranged by Age UK and the Towcester Rotarians.
The proceedings started with the guests having a glass of sherry whilst listening to Rotarian Hedley Dick play his Dutch Street Organ.
Following by a raffle, drawn by David Linney, Mayor of Towcester, a magnificent selection of cakes and tea was served by members of the WI all dressed up with a Jubilee theme.
This was followed by the star turn of the afternoon in the form of a magic show presented by Ian Keable who, with his dry wit and sleight of hand, baffled his audience with ropes, rings, cards, newspaper, sealed envelopes and a disappearing £20 note.
The afternoon concluded with a sing-a-long with the ever popular David Rowden at his electric organ.
5 o’clock arrived all too quickly and, with the rain still pouring down, the cars and minibuses came to take happy Senior Citizens back home.
A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon was had by all with lots of thanks to the Rotary Club of Towcester, the Towcester WI, Age UK and the staff of Leeson Court who, dressed to impress in their Jubilee outfits, were the perfect hosts and made everyone very welcome.
