Towcestrians 1st IX beat Rushden 2nd XI by 118 Runs

Towcestrians luck with the toss rolls on into week 10, after losing the 9th toss in a row and being inserted to bat first by Rushden.  The track at first appeared to be one which offered little help to the bowlers as Tows got off to another positive start putting on 40 for the first wicket. It was Andrew Key (15) who fell first for Tows, edging a good delivery from Rushdens best bowler Rawlins (3-60). Rawlins was getting variable bounce and for a while was proving difficult to get away, and after he removed the inform Laycock (38) and Yuill (4) Tows were struggling a bit at 100-3.  A big partnership was required and Tows got that from Jack Parish and Adam Kelly (44). By the time Kelly departed with the score on 210, Parish then took over and completely dominated the Rushden attack, in a ruthless display of batting. After notching up his 4th hundred of the season, Parish went onto his 150 in just an extra 20 balls and finished up with a club record score of 161, allowing Tows to declare on 316-5 after just 44 overs!

Rushden then got off to a steady start with the bat, and for most of the innings frustrated Towcestrians, with Tows finally getting the first wicket break through with the score on 89, and almost 17 overs completed. Tows continued to struggle to break down a resolute Rushden and it wasn’t until the fall of the 5th wicket, with the score on 160 and 20 overs remaining that Tows really sensed they had a chance of getting a maximum points victory. The old ball was now doing plenty for Tows Spin bowlers and Parish (5-37) and Laycock (4-43) were proving impossible for the Rushden lower order to get away. Tows finally got their deserved victory in the 53rd over and after 161 runs and 5 wickets the man of the match choice was possibly the easiest decision ever!

Tows will be looking to continue their promotion push this weekend away at 6th placed Horton House.

Old Northamptonians Academy beat Towcestrians 2nd XI by 6 Wickets

Meanwhile, the Tows 2nd Team contunues to struggle.  Around 20 players were unavailable on Saturday due to commitments during the Grand Prix weekend at Silverstone.  A weakened Tows side again lost the toss, and struggled to 172 all out in just under 44 overs.  James Baldwin was the only batsman to come out of the innings with any credit, scoring 59.

Tows were poor in the field, allowing to ON's batsmen to score runs far too easily.  The home side eventually reached their target with 6 wickets to spare.
