Come rain or shine the Village Fund Group hopes that all our children will go to the Green at 4:30pm on Saturday 24th July to enjoy fun and games. Later that evening there will be a village fish and chip supper complete with a pay bar.
Tickets should be ordered from either June on 01327 850575 or Jan on 01327 857247.
The Istanbul Marathon is the gruelling race that villagers Tim Pope and Alan Eastwood intend to compete in on Sunday 17th October. The two friends are experienced runners and in recent weeks have been training seriously on the lanes around the village and across into Buckinghamshire. Tim usually runs with his wife Helen but this year she has opted out as she is currently involved in studies and examinations to enhance her career as a veterinary surgeon.
Tim and Alan explained that although the summer heat in Turkey makes marathon running well nigh impossible, by mid-October the temperatures in Istanbul should be down around the 17 degrees mark – ideal for long distance running.
The Istanbul marathon is unique as it is the only course in the world that begins in one continent and ends in another. The course, mostly flat, begins on the Asian side of the city. Runners pound across the first Bosphorus bridge and then over two bridges above the Golden Horn. It passes many wonderful historic sites although Alan and Tim don’t expect to have much time to enjoy the sights. Our best wishes go to both our intrepid runners on their truly wonderful venture.
