Floral judges tour Kings Heath

The sun shone on Kings Heath Centre Partnership's bid to win a gold medal for the town centre floral trail in the Britain in Bloom competition.
Now after leading the judges on an intensive tour of the project, Bob Prew and his partnership team must wait until September for the verdict.
The judging visit started with a look around the vegetable gardens at Fox Hollies School, followed by a walk across to Highbury Park where Ellen Pisolka of Highbury Park Friends explained the work they are doing to restore parts of the Chamberlain estate.
At Kings Heath Park, Mark Peters of the park staff showed off the lndscaping around the park lake.
Last minute landscaping had seen extra bedding plants added to the park, although success in the Heart of England section of Britain in Bloom depends not just on the floral displays but on levels of community involvement and the general cleanliness of the area. AboutMyArea reported earlier how pavements in the High Street had been blasted to clean grime and chewing gum.
Before moving on the the High Street the judges received a presentation from Brian Miles of the All Saints Development Company on plans for the new town centre square. He explained how the community project had been put together and how funding was raised.
The judges then visited Kings Heath Community Centre Edible Garden which was inspired by Alys Fowler and finally local graffit artist Martin Hoakser showed off his new mural on the front of Security House in Heathfield Road.
