Film Ficciones Fierce! Festival Scott Johnstone Divine EdgarScott Johnston from Moseley is campaigning for votes so his coffin cinema show can be included in the Fierce! Festival - Birmingham's top showcase of cutting edge arts. A website has been set up to collect nominations from members of the public.

The work, called ‘The divine Edgar', takes place in total blackout and features elements of Victorian horror, fairground ride and immersive film and sound experience.

"It is a short, sharp assault on the senses," says Scott. "Each bare-footed viewer is led by a sinister, mournful guide into a fog- enshrouded, pitch black space. A church bell tolls, crows caw, and by lamplight the guide leads the viewer towards a large black coffin surrounded by dirt and leaves, and guarded by gravediggers. The guide then pries open the creaking coffin lid, hands the viewer a pair of headphones, and beckons them to climb inside.... where the real show begins."

More than 20 different works are competing to be included in this year's festival and voting closes on 11 April.

"We've reserved a range of spaces from theatres to pavements, broom cupboards and dressing rooms. Voters will decide what goes in them," explains Fierce! Festival director Mark Ball.

The Festival has hit the headlines with a range of unusual art installations over the years - including the creation of a giant birds nest on the side of the Rotunda and an orchestra floating over Birmingham in hot air balloons.

Mark, who lives in Kings Heath, has recently been appointed head of events at the Royal Shakespeare Company.
