B&Q sponsorship saves Kings Heath Gardeners' Weekend

Published: 12th July 2010 21:51

Chelsea comes to Kings Heath Park - the city's top garden show

The ever popular Kings Heath Gardeners Weekend has been renamed the Birmingham Garden Show following a sponsorship deal with B&Q.

Money poured into the event by the DIY giant seems to have rescued the top flower show from oblivion.  Earlier in the year there were strong rumours that the garden show would not take place in Kings Heath Park this year because of Birmingham City Council cutbacks.

It attracts both visitors and exhibitors from right across the Midlands and has always been one of the top horticultural shows on the region's gardening calendar.

This year's show will feature Birmingham council's  medal winning garden from the Chelsea Flower Show part-designed by former Kings Heath Park boss Mike Hinton.  The garden, called 'Road to Recovery' was also seen at the Royal Horticultural Society's Gardeners World Live 2010.

There will be a floral marquee, with floristry demonstrations, a Celebrity Question Panel and previous Gold Medal winners.

For familes there will be a food and drink area and Farmers Market - as well as a craft area and childrens area with bouncy castle and small rides and workshops.
Plants, bulbs, garden furniture and assessories.

Opening times: 10.00 am to 6.00 pm daily.

Thought it was rather overpriced. Even 2 cappuccinos £5. Last year for me.

Quite agree, Have to pay to enter, in order to buy from stalls! Think I'll give it a miss this year.

Such a shame that if it does go ahead that it will clash with Moseley Folk Festival again. Decisions decisions...plants or folk?

Does B&Q's involvement mean that there might be more consideration towards local residents?
