After losing winger Grant Spencer to Blue Square Premier newcomers Hyde, Ramsbottom United were boosted by the news that influential captain and centre-half Andy Dawson has turned down a move to Evo-Stik NPL Premier League FC United of Manchester.

Ramsbottom United's success last season
Supporters Player-of-the-Year Dawson has pledged his support to the newly-promoted Rams as they prepare for their first season in Evo-Stik NPL North.
Joint-manager Anthony Johnson said "It just shows how loyal he is as a player and a person. We didn't want to lose him, and he didn't want to go. They would have offered Andy a much better deal so for him to turn it down is a great boost.
"We pay the players what we can but you're not going to get rich at Rammy. We look after them in different ways and they've all bought into what we're doing at the club.
"We've just got promoted yet Andy could play at an even higher level but we believe he can get there with us, and he does too. He believes we're heading in the right direction.
"Andy's our captain, he leads by example and keeping him is the biggest signing we could have made."
Andy's brother is Craig Dawson, the West Bromwich Albion defender who has been called into the GB Olympic team.
The Rams boss is hoping to make two or three new signings, but with last year's squad having returned for pre-season training, he doesn't envisage any more players leaving.
