Talk Thursday 13th March
UK MARINE MAMMALS. Emma Webb will be giving an illustrated talk on the diverse world of UK
marine mammals including whales, dolphins and seals. Where can you find them? What are they
doing here and what happens when they get it wrong or become ill? Northumberland Theatre, Writtle College, Lordship Road, Writtle, Chelmsford, CM1 3RR
Walk Saturday 29th March
THURROCK THAMESIDE NATURE PARK (an EWT reserve). 10.00am. A new place for us. Go
to the end of Mucking Wharf Road and meet in the car park by the visitor centre (SS17 0RN; grid
reference 696,806 on Landranger OS Map 178). We will be looking for waders and returning
migrants with a chance of raptors, owls and kingfishers. There is a cafÈ on site. The walk is
suitable for all ages and walking boots are not required.
Walk Saturday 12th April
TWO TREE ISLAND. 9.30am (please note earlier time than normal). Meet in the car park just
over the river (grid reference 824,852 on Landranger OS Map 178). Turn off Belton Way and pass
Leigh-on-Sea station. We will be looking for summer migrants such as cuckoo, nightingale, lesser
whitethroat and turtle dove with grasshopper warbler and whimbrel also a possibility. The walk will be suitable for all ages but walking boots are recommended as the terrain may be uneven in
places and may be wet.

7.30pm Local Group AGM
8.00pm OTTERS RETURN. Darren Tansley, Essex Wildlife Trust's Water for Wildlife Officer, will
explain how otters are re-establishing themselves in Essex waterways, and the measures that
have been put in place to encourage them. Northumberland Theatre, Writtle College, Lordship Road, Writtle,
Chelmsford, CM1 3RR
Non-members are welcome at all events.
Talks are held at the Northumberland Theatre, Writtle College, Lordship Road, Writtle,
Chelmsford, CM1 3RR, commencing at 8pm and finishing about 9.45pm, with an interval for
refreshments. The lecture theatre is across Lordship Road from the main college building, to the
right of the Wilkins tea room and shop, and there is free parking on site.
Entry £2.50 adults, £1 children. No discount for postal group members.
Walks are all ìown carî outings, suitable for all abilities; help with bird ID will be available. Wear
suitable clothing and footwear and bring your own refreshments. There are no toilet facilities at
most of the walk venues.
