Honey bees and an olive tree move into The Green House

Published: 19th April 2012 10:33

Honey bees and an olive tree have taken up residency at The Green House in Bournemouth, earning extra eco-points for the UK's greenest hotel.

The Green House is planning to use the homemade honey as gifts for hotel guests and in dishes prepared by The Green Room restaurant kitchen. As the beehive homes are situated outside on the rooftop, guests need not fear bumping into the busy bees in the hotel hallways.

Taking pride of place amongst the tables in The Green Room restaurant is a new, natural art installation, a live olive tree. Under its boughs, guests can experience fine dining in a picnic-style setting, whatever the weather.

Olivia O'Sullivan, general manager at The Green House, said: "We are always looking for new ways to make The Green House even greener and are especially excited about our new guests.

"We are looking forward to making fresh granola from our first batch of honey and you can't get fresher than honey from your own roof! It is the epitome of source locally. Our beautiful, new olive tree provides a fantastic focal point for the restaurant and we hope our guests will enjoy picnicking under its branches."
