The very first Bitcoin ATM has arrived in Portsmouth is now available to use.
It is situated at Computer Junction in Elm Grove and will allow locals to buy and sell the digital currency which was created over seven years ago.
Computer Junction which provides a repair and tech support services for PCs, laptops, tablets and phones accepts Bitcoin as a payment method for their range of services.
Over the next several weeks more merchants and retailers from around the city will be joining in to create the largest Bitcoin accepting merchant network in the UK.
Charities are especially encouraged to participate. Earlier this year Aspex Art gallery in Gunwarf, Portsmouth, became the first local charity to begin accepting donations and, to date, have received around 0.21 Bitcoin, equivalent to about £40 at the time of writing.
AboutMyArea was told, "Bitcoin is a decentralised digital currency which was created in the wake of the banking crisis. It is a global currency which reduces transaction costs and has the potential to revolutionise the entire payments industry."
