Neston Players Centennial Project 2014 – 2018
November 2014: The Accrington Pals by Peter Whelan
On the eve of the First World War the young men of Accrington hear Kitchener’s call for a New Army and become the smallest town in England to raise a Pals Volunteer Brigade. When they arrive in France, the brutal reality of the trenches is beyond anything they were prepared for. And back home amongst the women they leave behind – their mothers, wives, daughters, lovers – nothing can ever be the same again. Peter Whelan’s epic and deeply humane play, dramatises the lives of ordinary people caught up in historical events. Funny, intimate and moving THE ACCRINGTON PALS charts the fortunes of a close-knit community on the brink of change.
The Presentation Night
Presentation night for the Players' November production, the first in the series of five productions being staged to mark the centenary of the First World War, will be held at Neston Youth & Community Centre on the 11th July 2014, commencing at 7.45pm. Come along and find out about the play, the productions and how you can get involved (both on-stage, back-stage and front of house) and pick up audition pieces. Paul Kirkbright, the Director, will be available after the presentation to answer questions and discuss the production in more detail.
Information packs and audition pieces will be available on the night and the auditions will be held on Friday 25th July. If anyone cannot make the audition night then please don’t panic as alternative arrangements can be made – just discuss with Paul at the presentation night.
