Willaston is holding a Three-day Festival to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee and the London Olympics.
The festivities start on Friday evening, June 15th, at 7.30 pm with a Jubilee Concert in the Church with talent from the village and beyond. The tempo rises with the finale of excerpts from The Last Night of the Proms which will put everyone the mood for the unique addition to our programme - a Drive-in Movie- MAMMA MIA! Brighten your day at the office by viewing our trailer on www.willastondrivein.org.uk. (Hurry and book your ticket today as they are the hottest ticket in town.)
On Saturday June 16th we have lots to see and do. The Fancy Dress Parade headed by Port Sunlight Silver Band and the Morris Dancers will parade down the main road at 12.30pm, taking the 160 children to their children's tea and entertainment on the Johnston Recreation Ground, next to Willaston Primary School.
Here there is a full programme of ring events, a country market, classic cars and motor bikes, a Memories Exhibition of memories of life when the Olympics came to London last time and life at the time of the coronation.
Refresh yourself in the tea tent, at the bar or in the Pimms tent. Sample the B-B-Q or try an ice cream. Don't forget to enjoy the Fashion Exhibition, Fashion Through the 60 Years of the Queen's Reign, held in the Memorial Hall on the Village Green. Also, visit the Flower Festivals in the Church and the Chapel and the children's Art work in the School.
Catch your breath for a couple hours then return to dance the night away at the Barn Dance, featuring the popular Devil's Fire Band. Come along as one of the Queen's subjects - anything from Dustman to Duchess.
Our grand finale is the Willaston Jubilee Big Lunch held on Sunday June 17th from 12 noon. It will be opened by the Chair of Cheshire West and Chester Council, Cllr Pam Booher. There will be a Jazz and Soul Band, fun Olympics, Bar, Food, a Jubilee Quizz, craft activities and much more.
