Choose who to vote for
| Published: 24th April 2007 23:42 |
We approached each of the five candidates standing for election in Brookmeadow Ward and invited them to submit a statement of up to 300 words explaining why they think you should vote for them. These statements are reproduced (unedited) below in alphabetical order of the candidate’s surname.
Butler, Richard Raymond | Labour |

One issue that is often raised is the state of our local high street still affectionately known by many as ‘The Village’. The Council needs to use all its powers to encourage a diverse range of retail outlets and if necessary reduce the rent on its own property to encourage independent shop keepers. I will also campaign strenuously to insist the County Council meets its obligation to keep our roads and pavements in good repair. There is great concern over the bi-weekly rubbish collections and having listened to your suggested solutions I will be arguing strongly for revisions to the scheme which will eliminate the prospect of rotting waste in our bins for two weeks in the hot summer months and plastic blowing around our streets on windy collection days. The recycling scheme needs to be extended to flats and greater provision should be made to make recycling accessible for the elderly and less able in our community with more recycling bins placed in convenient locations around our ward. A local composting scheme should be considered to eliminate the environmentally damaging lorry trips out of the borough with the compost being made available for purchase by our own residents. The election on the 3rd of May is not about national politics, it’s about your local councils services. We need your support to keep a good active opposition in Hertsmere and to keep a Labour controlled Town Council. So please Vote for Richard Butler and myself Ian Feeney for the Borough Council and Stephen Evans, Lee Petar and Tony Scott-Norman for the Town Council. | |

As an active member of the local synagogue I welcome the cultural diversity within the area and firmly believe that all communities should work together to improve local facilities. I will as a local councillor always give my full support any reasonable request made by local groups and individuals fighting to improve the community and acknowledge and support the differing needs and traditions of our diverse cultural and religious groups. This site is not promoting any individual candidate or party. The AboutMyArea local site editor approached all the candidates nominated in the listed wards and asked them to submit a 300 word statement. All were approached equally and given the same deadline. Where indicated, no statement was received by the initial deadline of midnight Tuesday 24 April 2007. The site may be updated periodically where late submissions are received. The text of all statements is reproduced exactly as submitted by the candidate or their agent and AboutMyArea is not responsible for the content of the candidate statements. Any statements over the 300-word limit have been cut at the end of the last complete sentence preceding the word limit.
