Good for the Feet!

Author: Unicorn Ceilidhs Published: 26th October 2016 11:04

Locally-based Chalktown are the featured band at the Unicorn Ceilidh on Friday 11th November at St Mary’s Church Hall, Baldock.  Chalktown are an innovative dance band, with English folk meeting indie rock with a twist of modern jazz, producing music that is great for listening and irresistible for dancing. The band has a wealth of dance music experience with three ex-members of the legendary Gas Mark 5, and has been described in fRoots magazine as “Good for the feet”!

Sheena Masson makes a very welcome return to Unicorn Ceilidhs as the caller for the evening.  Sheena has worked with just about every top ceilidh band and has a wonderful rapport with the dancers – her instructions are always clear and she has some great dances!

This month there will be interval entertainment from dynamic and fun-loving Cambridgeshire-based Sutton Masque Morris.  Founded in 2014, the side dances in the “Border” style and has built up a repertoire of dances collected from other Morris sides.

Held at St Mary’s Church Hall, Church Street, Baldock SG7 5AE, the evening starts at 8:00 p.m. (doors open at 7:30), and finishes at 11.00 p.m. Adults - £10, Seniors over 65 - £9, Children under 18 - £6, Students / unwaged - £7. First 6 students before 8 p.m. - FREE! Excellent value for a live band and caller!  There’s a real ale, cider, wine and soft drinks bar and a raffle at the half-time break; parking is easy in the town centre, just walk to the church and you’ll find the hall in the church grounds.

All the dances are walked through beforehand, and the emphasis is very much on enjoying yourself, rather than getting everything step perfect. See www.unicornceilidhs.org.uk for full details.
