Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes AMG F1 Petronas Team) “I think definitely events like this will motivate a lot of young kids. I think it is important for many kids to have opportunities to see F1 Live at least once in their childhood.” Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes AMG F1 Petronas Team) - “I think definitely events like this will motivate a lot of young kids. I think it is important for many kids to have opportunities to see F1 Live at least once in their childhood.”

Crowds treated to appearances from drivers and cars, alongside host of stars and headline music acts Formula 1® yesterday hosted ‘F1 Live London’, a world first event in the heart of the capital featuring all 10 Formula 1® teams, drivers and cars, alongside chart-topping Little Mix, Bastille and the Kaiser Chiefs.

The spectacular show, which saw Trafalgar Square and Whitehall taken over by Formula 1® celebrated a new era, and succeeded in bringing fans closer to the world’s most exhilarating sport than ever before.

Crowds of 100,000 attended throughout the day and got the chance to see all teams participate in events which shone a light on the highly-skilled engineering that goes into powering a Formula 1 car and the opportunities for young people to enter motorsport.

A live stage show in Trafalgar Square hosted by Rochelle Humes and Jake Humphrey saw performances from bands including Little Mix, Bastille and the Kaiser Chiefs following a car parade on Whitehall attracting crowds of 35,000.

The first part of the day involved an F1 Schools and Innovation Showcase which gave school children and those looking to enter higher education with a broad outline of the exciting opportunities and careers in engineering and motorsport.

Speaking ahead of the 2017 Formula 1 Rolex British Grand Prix, Formula 1® drivers from Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari reflected on yesterday’s events in London:

Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes AMG F1 Petronas Team)

“I think definitely events like this will motivate a lot of young kids. I think it is important for many kids to have opportunities to see F1 Live at least once in their childhood.”

Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull Racing)

“It was a good event. Look, I’m sure that would have been pretty difficult to organise and get that all going but I felt like it was a success and you know, we had a bit of time on track to try to give the fans what they wanted to see. I doubt they left disappointed.”

Kimi Raikkonen (Scuderia Ferrari)

“The London event was really good, something different never done before. Most of the people can only see us in TV and yesterday they had the chance to see the cars live. It was nice to have the teams and most of the drivers all together for the fans.”

Sean Bratches, Managing Director, Commercial Operations at Formula 1® added:

“F1 Live London is the most striking example yet of Formula 1’s evolution this year. We feel there is no better way to celebrate the exciting season we have had so far than to have this landmark event in London on the eve of the British Grand Prix.

“This is all about giving our fans the opportunity to get closer to the teams, cars and drivers they love. The day was a great success for London and F1 and we could not have done this without the help of all the London authorities, the Mayor's office, Westminster City Council, the Metropolitan Police and the other emergency services.

“But our biggest thanks goes to Londoners, those who turned up, those who followed events via social media and those who showed great patience if delayed on their way home.

“Thanks all for your support and understanding in showing once more why London is the sporting capital of the world.”
