Holmes Fest 2018

A celebration of the life and times of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and his greatest creation Sherlock Holmes returns to Portsmouth later this month for its second year after Holmes Fest 2017's sellout success.

Holmes Fest 2018 starts on 27th June at the Square Tower, Portsmouth, with a joyous night of original storytelling by local authors, hilarious Victorian musical hall songs performed by Hudson and Lestrade, and silent film from the earliest years of Holmes.

Holmes Fest's opening evening will also include a mysterious fortune-teller and a fun demonstration of Victorian marksmanship with a very modern twist. Stalls will sell items connected to different aspects of the creative scene in Portsmouth, past and present, and there will be a prize for the evening's Best-Dressed Victorian.

Organiser Matt Wingett explains: "Last year was a complete sellout for the Holmes Fest night, and the audience clamoured for more. That's why, this year, Holmes Fest has grown to seven unique events. I think it's important Portsmouth people should be proud of our connection with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who created Sherlock Holmes while living in Portsmouth in the 1880s, as well as the thriving creative scene in Portsmouth today."

This year's full Holmes Fest programme will also include Sherlock Holmes and the Strange Case of the Theatre Ghost on 29th June, in which Sherlock Holmes will lead you on a ghost hunt through the marvellously atmospheric King's Theatre, a night of Victorian Music Hall song with the wonderfully funny Hudson and Lestrade, a talk on the origins of the Hound of the Baskervilles and two free spoken word events . It will all be topped off with Arthur Conan Doyle's Lost Pint, a brewery tour and viewing of 1925 silent movie, The Lost World.

Matt Wingett says: "I'm very proud to showcase Portsmouth's connection to the worldwide phenomenon of Sherlock Holmes, and the champion other sides of the extraordinary life of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Tickets sold out long before the event, and you are advised to book early to avoid disappointment. Holmes Fest 2018 is going to be great!
