The BRDC British F3 Championship heads to the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit this weekend (9-10 June 2018), with an international line-up of talented young drivers all looking to impress at the home of the BRDC and the British Grand Prix.

The field arrives at Silverstone with a thrilling title battle developing between Nordic duo Linus Lundqvist and Nicolai Kjaergaard.

Sweden’s Lundqvist, competing for Double R Racing, has won three of this year’s nine races with a victory at all three circuits visited so far, while Denmark’s Kjaergaard, racing for Carlin, was a winner at Oulton Park and at Snetterton. Two retirements, not through fault of his own, have hampered his title bid so far, but he is just 30 points shy of Lundqvist, and with the championship reaching the half-way point this weekend, he’s determined to start reversing some of his luck.

Lundqvist has been a model of consistency, having only finished off the podium three times this season and is very much a driver to keep an eye out for this weekend. Such is the level of competition between these two drivers, that the championship lead has been exchanged between the pair five times already.

Looking to join the ‘Vikings’ at the top is Lanan Racing’s Indian charge Kush Maini. The 17-year-old lives in Silverstone village, so this is very much a home round, and he has threatened to join the fight after several strong recent finishes, including a maiden car racing win at Rockingham, and four additional podium finishes.

The top Brit at the moment is Fortec’s Tom Gamble. The 16-year-old is the reigning Ginetta Junior champion and will be looking to bounce back from a challenging Snetterton weekend. He’s already taken one win this year though and wants to kick start his campaign at Silverstone. Gamble is just seven points ahead of Double R’s Krishnaraaj Mahadik, who claimed his first podium of the year at Snetterton.

The man who edged Mahadik to victory was Fortec’s Manuel Maldonado, who claimed his second victory of the season at Snetterton, adding to his maiden car racing triumph at Oulton Park, and has shown plenty of development in his sophomore season of British F3.

Next up in the standings is Billy Monger, who has shown good pace on his racing return this year, but needs an injection of luck to put him back on the podium after that famous result at Oulton Park.

Jordan Cane is 10 points behind for Douglas Motorsport, and the Brit is chasing his first victory of the season having won three times in 2017, while Frenchman Tristan Charpentier, driving for Fortec, enjoyed his most consistent weekend of the season at Snetterton last time out, and is targeting a podium return this weekend.

Douglas Motorsport’s Jamie Chadwick completes the top 10 in the standings heading into the weekend, and she has already secured a podium finish so far this year. Just behind her is Sasakorn Chaimongkol, the Thai driver competing for Hillspeed was extremely impressive at Snetterton, regularly near the front in testing and qualifying, and taking his first podium with a strong drive to third in the weekend’s second race.

Renault Sport Academy driver Sun Yue Yang has been a regular top-10 contender for Carlin this season, while Hillspeed’s Canadian Ben Hurst secured his best F3 results yet at Snetterton, which included an eighth place finish in the second race of the weekend.

Carlin’s Clement Novalak returns at Silverstone, the Brit not yet securing the results that his pace has certainly warranted, while Double R’s Pavan Ravishankar continues to show improvement as he adapts to British F3 machinery. Douglas Motorsport’s Arvin Esmaeili secured his best F3 result so far with a fifth at Snetterton that looked like being a podium finish.

German Jusuf Owega completes the expected 17-car entry this weekend. The Hillspeed driver made his debut at Rockingham and has shown strong pace in his first year in single seaters.

The BRDC British F3 weekend starts with testing on two 45 minute test sessions on Friday afternoon, with qualifying at 11.10 on Saturday morning, ahead of race one at 14.20. The reverse grid second race starts at 11.40 on Sunday morning, with the final contest at 17.15, with full updates and live timing available on the official BRDC British F3 website.
