This month’s Silverstone Classic (20-22 July 2018) may be all about nostalgia but, with one eye on the future, driving experiences will be available for those too young to venture out onto the roads just yet.

In the UK driving licences are only available to those aged 17 but, thanks to Young Driver - the UK’s largest under 17 driving lesson provider -  anyone aged 10 and over (and 1.42 metres or taller) can get behind the wheel of a Vauxhall Corsa as part of the new Drive Live initiative.

As an introductory offer – and to whet the appetites of budding petrol-heads – 10-minute taster sessions will be available between 09:00 and 18:00 on all three days at the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival.

Sessions will be priced at just £5 and, with so many families attending, demand is anticipated to be high. However, to avoid the frustration of queuing at an event which has so much to offer both on and off the famous Grand Prix circuit, time slots can be booked in advance.

Young drivers will be taught to drive in a brand new dual-controlled Corsa with a member of the Young Driver team. There are over 450 highly qualified ADIs across the UK in the Young Driver centres, all of whom have been DBS checked and individually trained in how to adapt the DVSA curriculum to be appropriate for younger children.

During their one-to-one tuition, tomorrow’s motorists will learn a whole host of skills including starting, driving, braking, corner control, changing gear, stopping and even reversing.

“With more and more families attending the Silverstone Classic every year, we are always eager to provide more interactive entertainment and opportunities to fuel the passions of our massively enthusiastic younger visitors,” explained Nick Wigley, Event Director.

“In the past we’ve offered some great simulators and junior whacky wheelers but now, for the very first time, those too young to drive on our roads will also be able to get behind the wheel of a real car and experience the wonderful thrills of driving – how exciting is that?”

Located in the heart of the Shopping Village area close to the Town Square and JET Village Green, Drive Live will also provide more mature show-goers (aged 25 and over) with the chance to experience the latest range of Self-Charging Hybrid models from trail-blazing Lexus for free!

After a short-briefing on the controls of the car, visitors will be able to sample the Lexus’s everyday delights on a 30-minute test drive set on the open roads around the circuit. Simplifying things further, directions will be programmed into the vehicle’s Sat Nav – what’s more a prize will be awarded for the most economical driver on the route.

All tickets for the Silverstone Classic must be purchased in advance. Adult admission is priced from just £45 and, once again, all tickets will provide access to both Silverstone racing paddocks, open trackside grandstands, live music concerts on the Friday and Saturday evenings, air shows, funfair rides and the vast majority of the family entertainment on offer.

Full details of all 2018 ticket prices are available on the silverstoneclassic.com website. Hospitality and camping options are also available.
